Details

• Terms of the Site License:
  1. The minimum order is 15 per-user per-year licenses. They may be licenses for different products.
  2. You can only sell or otherwise distribute the licenses to end users directly affiliated with your organization.
  3. You must maintain a list of the end users who are licensed to use the software (one user per license) and provide this list to CoHort Software, if requested, to ensure that only licensed end users are using the software.
  4. The licenses you buy now are only good for one year from the date of your order.
  5. The license price is the same for new site licenses and for their annual renewal. We will try to never raise the price of the license. We promise to never raise the price of the license more than 10% in a given year.
  6. We will send you a registration number when you place your order. We will send you another registration number each year when you renew your site license. You must make a reasonable effort to ensure that the registration number is only given to the licensed end users and that it is not further redistributed. YOU MAY NOT POST THE REGISTRATION NUMBER ON THE INTERNET. YOU MUST SEND OR GIVE THE REGISTRATION NUMBER DIRECTLY TO EACH LICENSED END USER.
  7. The license does not include CD's. For the purposes of distributing the software to your licensed end users,
     1. You may download the trial version of CoStat (costat.html#download) and/or CoPlot (coplot.html#download) from the CoHort Software web site and make it available to your licensed end users on your web site. (The trial version is the same as the regular version when it is registered.) Your web page should indicate that this download is only for licensed end users of CoStat and/or CoPlot, but you do not have to take special precautions to ensure that only licensed end users download the software. YOU MAY NOT POST THE REGISTRATION NUMBER ON THE INTERNET. YOU MUST SEND OR GIVE THE REGISTRATION NUMBER DIRECTLY TO EACH LICENSED END USER. End users should be instructed to download the software from your web site, not the CoHort Software web site.
     2. And/or, you can purchase CDs separately for $8 each to distribute the software to your end users.
     You may not produce your own CoStat and/or CoPlot CDs.
  8. The license does not include printed manuals. Printed manuals are available separately for $30 for the set of CoPlot manuals (which includes CoStat) or $15 for the CoStat manual alone, plus shipping charges. You may not reprint the CoPlot or the CoStat manuals.
  9. Your organization must provide the first level of support to the end users. Problems which your support person can't answer can be sent by the support person to CoHort Software for no-charge technical support.
  10. The license includes access to all major and minor new versions. We will notify the contact person by email when the new versions become available. You may distribute the new versions in the same ways that you originally distributed the software (see above). Your registration number will continue to work on the minor updates. When major versions are released, we will send you a new registration number (which you can distribute directly to the individual end users -- do not post it on the Internet).
  11. The standard CoHort license applies to all end-users: The Java byte code (in the .class files) used to distribute this software is the property of CoHort Software and its suppliers and is protected by copyright law and international treaty provisions. You are authorized to make and use copies of the byte code only as part of the application in which you received the byte code and for backup purposes. Except as expressly provided in the preceding sentence, you are not authorized to reproduce and distribute the byte code. You are only authorized to use your copy of this software as you would would use a book. Like a book, your copy of this software may be used by only one person on one computer at a time. CoHort Software reserves all rights not expressly granted. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the byte code.
  12. DISCLAIMER: THIS SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR AND CONTRIBUTORS "AS IS" AND ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE ARE DISCLAIMED. • Do you want us to calculate the price?
  Do you want a pro-forma invoice? Call, fax, email, or mail CoHort Software with a list of what you are considering buying and request a pro-forma invoice (a formal price quote).
• "CoPlot" - CoPlot includes CoStat. That is why the CoPlot manual counts as two books, but the CoStat manual counts as only one book.
• "CD" - We will ship a CD for Windows unless you specifically request a CD for Mac OS X. Currently, there are no CD's for other operating systems. The CD includes Java (which is automatically installed if your computer doesn't have it), the program you ordered, and the HTML version of the manual. The CoPlot CD also includes CoStat, and all of the optional CoPlot files (the icon library, the world map data files, and the detailed U.S. map data files).
• Is this a roving license? No. Unlike the regular license for individual users, these per-user per-year licenses can only be used by specific designated users (one user per license). For instance, if you buy 15 per-user per-year licenses, then you can designate 15 people who are eligible to use the software.

  If you buy one or more regular licenses for individual users, you can install the program on a server if the server has a mechanism to ensure that the number of current users never exceeds the number of licenses that you have purchased. Then several users can share the program, although only one user per license can be using the program at any given moment.

• Non-Windows/Mac OS X Operating Systems - Please download and install the trial version of CoPlot or CoStat. If that works for you, you can purchase licenses at the prices listed above. Currently, we don't offer CD's for non-Windows/Mac OS X operating systems. Sorry. We plan to officially support these other operatings systems in the near future. If you want to be notified by email when this happens, please send an email to the Linux mailing list, or tell us what other operating systems you would like to see supported.
• Customs and VAT Taxes on Shipments to Outside the U.S. - The prices above do not include customs or VAT taxes. CoHort does not pay these taxes. Customers outside the U.S. will pay these taxes when they receive the package containing the software. To avoid these taxes legally, use the "Nothing shipped" option.
• Tax Implications of "Nothing shipped" - If you purchase only licenses (not CDs or printed manuals), we will send you a receipt by email, but nothing will be sent by regular mail. California has stated that purely electronic sales (such as this) are currently exempt from the sales tax that would normally be applied to sales to customers in California. Since nothing is sent through the mail, this method will bypass the normal methods that other governments use to collect other taxes; therefore, paying those taxes, if any, becomes your responsibility. Also, note that you can place a separate order for just the CDs and/or printed manuals at any time (including later on the same day).
• Prices for Individuals - See the separate order form with prices for individuals.
• CoPlot and CoStat are free for students.
• U.S. Dollars - All prices are in U.S. dollars.
• Shipping Time - Orders in the U.S. should arrive in 3 - 4 business days. Orders from outside the U.S. should arrive in 7 - 14 business days.
• No Academic Discount - Sorry, there is no special academic discount. Most of our sales are to academic institutions, so we tried to set one low price for everyone.
• No More Network Node Licenses - Sorry, that offer was for the DOS programs. Please use the volume discounts for the standard programs or the Per-User Per-Year Site License (this page) instead.
• No More Reseller Discount - Sorry, the programs are only available directly from CoHort Software.
