Upgrade Information
(for CoHort's DOS Programs)

In the last major release (June 1995) we have added many new features that users have asked for. The subsections of this document are:

The future: These upgrades are available for DOS only (although they can be run in Windows 3.1/95/98/NT and OS/2). We are currently working on a cross-platform version which we will support Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT, Macs, OS/2, and Unix. We aren't abandoning DOS, just concentrating elsewhere for the next version.

If you have any questions, please call or write. We'll be glad to help.

CoPlot 3.0 Changes

  • New kinds of graphs for making maps: Mercator, Conic, and Orthographic projections. Special data sets are provided with lake, river, road, park, country, state, and county boundaries for world maps and detailed U.S. maps (using USGS data). More Map Information
  • Increased numbers of objects: up to 99 data sets, 99 functions, 99 comments, 99 arrows, and 99 labels on each axis. Text objects can now be up to 255 characters long.
  • Conditional plotting: A boolean equation can specify which data points are plotted (e.g., If (#1>20) and (#2<100)) and the range for a function (e.g., Function 1 Extent 0 to 30).
  • A new system for automatic changes. Preferences are now stored with each individual part of each individual graph. See Graph Automatic changes.
  • Grids of any size for Contour and Z-3D graphs.
  • Contour graphs are gone. All contour representations are available on XY and map graphs. Contour graphs will be automatically converted to XY graphs. This gives you access to lots of data representations on XY graphs and lets you use contour representations on Map graphs.
  • Faster 3D grid conversion.
  • New interactive system for 3D Graph Size and shape.
  • New data representations: Box and whiskers, Vector, 2 point bars, Outward fill, fill between 2 Y's, Wind barb, Bold nth spline, etc.
  • New features for old representations: set the line type (and dash size for the line type) between markers and splines, make horizontal error bars, designate a marker size variable, put error bars on I) bars, etc. Also, the old data representations have been renamed and now use scrollable menus.
  • 2 pt image - for displaying PCX files on the screen. When used with Graph Get, this makes it possible to collect data from scanned images of graphs.
  • Transfer - on the Map, Data, Function, Arrow, and Comment menus, lets you copy one object's attributes to a series of other objects.
  • Update screen Other settings: whether lines go through missing values, whether error bars have caps on the ends, whether error bar lines go through the markers, and select the Marker font.
  • The axes can now be Offset from the graph.
  • You can now put a Box around the legend.
  • Each axis has a Color option that lets you set title, label, ticks, and axis line colors in one step.
  • Matrix graph supports different X and Y variables.
  • Graph File Quick switch - is useful if you have more than one graph loaded.
  • Graph Get new options: Open output file, data Area, Evaluate Fn, Integrate Fn.
  • Batch printing of .GRG files now supported.

CoDraw 3.0 Changes

  • Import CGM, DXF, and Adobe Illustrator PostScript EPS files.
  • Layers - Objects are now stored in layers 0 - 255. Layers are a useful way to segregate parts of a drawing, e.g., different years of crop history written on a field map. You can control which layers are visible and on which layer new objects will be stored with Update screen Y layer.
  • Just edit (on the main menu) allows you to specify the type of object you want to edit before picking objects. This can be useful when you have trouble picking an object.
  • New object type: 2 pt image draws a .PCX file. The image files can have 2, 16 or 256 colors; CoDraw will use the closest colors available in the current palette. The image can be scaled to any size.
  • New object type: Dimension text lets you identify 2 points and enter the text to be written between them (which can include a code to print the distance). Arrows will be drawn from the text outward to the 2 marked points.
  • Pie and Circle are now rotatable and skewable.
  • The pickable point for a text object can now be marked with a +. Update screen Guides controls this and other features that assist editing.
  • Marker line type and font can now be specified.
  • New options for Update screen Coordinates - Scale - Lets you add (or remove) space at the edges of the drawing. Change - This is the original system which changes the coordinates of all the objects. Tilt - Especially useful when digitizing a map which may be tilted on a digitizer. This adjusts the data as it comes in from the digitizer.
  • Pick, Encircle lets you mark a series of points to define a boundary; objects/points inside the boundary will be picked.
  • Variety edit Hide and Show - Push a group of objects to the background or foreground.
  • Individual edit Break object - breaks multipoint objects (e.g., line, fill, marker) at a specified place.
  • Individual edit Join objects - joins 2 multipoint objects (e.g., line, fill, marker).
  • Edit Kind lets you change the kind of object to a similar kind (e.g., line to filled area).
  • Support for more characters per drawing: A minimum of 5000 characters, plus additional characters if you have EMS memory or a RAM disk.
  • Zoom Factor and Zoom In allow magnification up to 10,000 fold, not 100, as before.
  • Rotate now allows real numbers (not just integers) when you Move or Copy objects.
  • CoDraw allows up to 1000 points per object, not 500, as before.
  • New fonts - bar code 39, Katakana, and map symbols.

  • On-line help system. This makes it easier to use the program occasionally by reminding you: what the test is for, what type of data is needed, and how to interpret the results.
  • More options in Correlation and Descriptive statistics.
  • LSD can now be used for comparisons of all means.
  • Means tests (except Duncan's) now support P=0.1, 0.05, 0.01, 0.005, 0.001.
  • Bartlett's test for homogeneity of variances - now performed with ANOVA or in Miscellaneous tests.
  • All subsets regression now ranks and prints the 100 best models.
  • Regression prints standard errors of coefficients.
  • Bug Fix: Mean+-2SD sometimes printed wrong values for the last original variable.

Ordering Information

Upgrades are only available directly from CoHort Software. The upgrades include new manuals. Because of the interconnections of the four programs, we strongly recommend upgrading all of the CoHort Software programs that you own, not just the one or two that you use most.
  1. Price: The upgrade and shipping costs are:

CoStat/CoPlot/CoDraw program upgrades - $50 for one program, $95 for two, $125 for all three.
Student and Network node upgrade - $30 for one program, $60 for two programs, $75 for all three.
    CoVis upgrade - $30
Shipping in the U.S. - $3 for one program, $4 for two, $5 for three, $6 for four.
Canada / UPS 2 Day shipping - $8 for one program, $9 for two, $10 for three, $11 for four.
Shipping overseas - $16 for one program, $24 for two, $32 for three, $40 for four.

Map data files: CoPlot comes with two disks of world map data files (for the entire world) and one disk (the one with your state) of detailed U.S. map data files. Additional detailed U.S. map files are $4 per disk (usually with 2-4 states) or $35 for all disks (approximately 14 disks).

We accept purchase orders, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. California residents: please add your county's sales tax. If paying international orders by check, send an international money order or a check, in U.S. dollars, payable at a U.S. bank.

The "third program" offer: Many people purchase one or two programs of the CoHort bundle (CoStat, CoPlot, and CoDraw) and later decide that they want the remaining program(s) in the bundle. Whenever you buy the third program, you can get it for $77 ($395 - $159 - $159).

The network offer: We offer a 50% discount off of the regular price for network node licenses. Network users should buy one copy at the regular price for the first user and additional "node licenses" for each additional active user (generally, that is someone who uses the programs for real work, not just to try them out, and who wants the manuals). The node licenses include manuals but no disks. For users who already have network node licenses, note the special network node upgrade price above.

The new student-price offer: 50% off the regular price for new program licenses.

The new volume discount offer: When several new program licenses are purchased at once, we offer volume discounts of 20% off 5 or more programs, 30% off for 15 or more programs, and 50% off for 50 or more programs. The CoStat/CoDraw/CoPlot bundle is not included in the volume discount offer; instead, order the three individual programs. For example, instead of buying 2 bundles, buy 2 CoStats, 2 CoPlots, and 2 CoDraws (6 programs) and get the 20% discount.

The new site license offer: For $10,000, an organization can get a site license (for one location) for all of our programs. Contact CoHort Software for details.

  2. Serial number/User name: Orders must indicate one serial number from one version of one of your copies of a CoHort program. We just need one number. Serial numbers indicate the name of the registered user (the name on the envelope for this letter). If the name of the person requesting the upgrade is different from the registered user, please indicate on your order if you wish to transfer "ownership" of the programs.

  3. Phone Number: Please include your phone number (or fax number if overseas) or email address in case we have questions about your order.
