Graphics and Statistics Software For Scientists and Engineers

CoHort Software has a full line of high-quality, IBM PC compatible, graphics and statistics software for scientists and engineers. CoPlot 3.0, CoDraw 3.0, and CoStat 5.0 are the current DOS releases of the software PC Magazine called "one of those nicely done packages that you see once in a blue moon...Don't let the low price fool you; this is excellent software." Although these are DOS programs, they can be run in a DOS window in Windows 3.1/95/98/NT/2000/XP and OS/2. Each program is a great tool when used by itself, but they work even better when used together:

CoPlot creates publication-quality, scientific graphs of data and equations. This extremely flexible, "What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get" program lets you choose from 18 different kinds of graphs and maps (2D and 3D) and gives you control over every part of the graph -- marker types, line widths, kinds of axes, error bars, Greek and scientific characters, text attributes, etc. And you can save graphs so that they can be used as templates for future graphs. See CoPlot Details below.

CoDraw lets you create high-quality technical drawings. CoDraw is great for drawing apparatus diagrams, field maps, circuit diagrams, genetic maps, chemical symbols, landscape designs, seminar announcements, etc. You can also use it to add custom features to graphs from CoPlot. "What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get", and you'll like what you see. See CoDraw Details below.

CoStat performs statistical analysis of your data. No more procedural languages to memorize -- CoStat's menus give you easy access to sophisticated statistics (GLM ANOVA, log-linear analysis of 3-way tables, all-subsets multiple regression, true non-linear regression, etc.). CoStat can quickly create simple fixed-format graphs or set up a graph and jump to CoPlot for publication-quality graphs. See CoStat Details below.

CoPlot - Scientific Graphics Software

CoPlot is the scientific graphics program you've been looking for. It is easy to use, extremely flexible, and creates publication-quality, scientific graphs and maps.

What You See Is What You Get - With CoPlot, your graph is always on the screen as you modify it. Menus appear beside the graph so that you can specify which part of the graph you want to modify and how you want to modify it. You see the changes immediately.

Absolute Control - CoPlot will create a graph as soon as you enter your data and/or equations. CoPlot's flexibility gives you absolute control over the appearance of everything on the screen - line widths, marker types, colors, grid lines, text attributes, etc. CoPlot can save the graph, making it easy to create similar graphs with different data sets in the future. You can also use keystroke macros that can be easily recorded, easily edited, and can be assigned to Alt or Function keys.

Easy Data Entry - Any number of floating-point numbers (limited only by disk space) can be entered and edited with CoPlot's spreadsheet-style data editor or you can use CoStat data files directly. CoPlot has the same Load data file and Editor options as CoStat.

Special Features for Scientists:

Superb-Quality Output - You can print the graph to a printer, plotter, or graphics file, scaled to any size, at the highest resolution available on that device.

Maps in CoPlot 3.0

CoPlot 3.0 has three new kinds of graphs for making maps with different projections: Orthographic, Mercator, and Alber's Conic. You can also use XY graphs to make maps.

World Maps - CoPlot comes with several world map data files with specially encoded data for drawing nations, states, cities, oceans, rivers, and lakes for the entire world. These map data files are small enough (about 4MB) to be searched and plotted quickly, yet detailed enough to be useful for maps of areas as small as roughly 3x3 degrees or 200x200 miles.

Detailed maps - CoPlot comes with a second set of detailed map data files with additional, highly detailed information (from the United States Geological Survey) for a small area of the United States (usually three or four states). These files include data for nations, states, counties, oceans, rivers, lakes, parks, and roads. When you buy CoPlot, you will be sent the entire world map data files and the detailed map data files for your state. Additional detailed map data files of the entire United States are available for $4 per disk or $35 for all 14 disks.

Control of what is visible on the map - The menus called Map 1 - F let you control what geographic information appears on the map. 1 - F are 15 different layers which can control the display of up to 15 different kinds of information. They are analogous to Data 1 - 99 in that they have a series of attributes that you can set. When the map is drawn, layer 1 is drawn first, then layer 2,.... A typical map might have five map layers: Ocean, Lake, River, Nation, and State. Each layer has separate controls for line color, line width, fill color, text color, text height, etc.

Maps are just like other graphs - You can use standard CoPlot commands to create the map you want. Maps have grid lines (latitude and longitude lines) and axis ranges (in degrees). You can specify the size and shape of a map as with other graphs. Data and functions can be plotted on maps just as you would plot them on contour or XY graphs.

Sample Maps - CoPlot comes with color and black and white sample maps of the world and of a small section of the U.S. The maps can be easily modified or you can create your own.

The "Map Make" menu has many options that simplify the process of setting up a map, including:

CoPlot Orthographic Map

CoPlot Mercator Map

CoPlot Conic Map

CoDraw - Technical Drawing Software

CoDraw is an extremely flexible drawing program designed to help you create high-quality, technical drawings.

What You See Is What You Get - With CoDraw, your drawing is always on the screen as you create it. Menus appear beside the drawing allowing you to quickly create or edit objects. You see the changes immediately. You can then print or plot the drawing at the maximum resolution of the printer or plotter.

A Wide Variety of Objects - CoDraw can create drawings with lines, splines, Bezier lines, circles, arcs, ellipses, markers, filled areas, Bezier filled areas, .PCX images, and text. CoDraw has very flexible, high-quality, text-drawing facilities that use smooth outline (Bezier) fonts which can be scaled to any size and rotated to any angle. You can also use embedded commands to get subscripts, superscripts, underlines, italics, different fonts, Greek and scientific characters, etc. CoDraw's character editor lets you edit existing characters or create your own characters and symbols.

Flexible Editing - CoDraw lets you take different approaches to editing objects that you have created. You can edit the attributes of individual objects or groups of the same type of object: line width, line type, marker size, marker type, fill type, color, etc. You can edit diverse groups of objects: move, copy, delete, scale, rotate, hide, show, and load from and save to a file. Or, you can move, insert, or delete individual points within objects. CoDraw supports keystroke macros that are easily recorded, easily edited, and can be assigned to Alt or Fn keys.

Get Information - You can get distance, length, angle, area, and other information about existing objects. Or, you can get information directly from printed drawings and maps using the Get procedure with a digitizer.

Import Graphics - CoDraw can import, edit, and print vector drawings from HPGL plotter files, Lotus PIC, CGM, AutoCad DXF, and Adobe Illustrator EPS graphics files. CoDraw also has a raster-to- vector conversion procedure so you can import PCX files.

Your Programs - Our Graphics. CoDraw's drawing files are ASCII text files which use a simple graphics language. You can easily write programs (using C, Fortran, BASIC, Pascal, etc.) that create drawing files. Then you can use CoDraw for interactive editing and printing of the drawings. Your programs get all the advantages of CoDraw (high-quality interactive graphics, and access to a wide range of screens, printers, plotters, and graphics files) without the difficulties and disadvantages of buying subroutines that take up valuable memory and code space in your programs.

CoStat - Statistical Software

CoStat is an interactive, menu-driven, statistical program which makes commonly used statistical procedures available to microcomputer users at a reasonable price. CoStat has many of the features normally found only on expensive micro and mainframe statistics packages, but it is much easier to use and considerably less expensive.

Intelligent Menus - CoStat remembers all of the settings on all of the menus. This facilitates making small changes and rerunning an analysis, or running the same analysis on different data sets. CoStat also supports keystroke macros that are easily recorded, easily edited, and can be assigned to Alt or Function keys.

Large Intelligent Data Files - CoStat data files may contain up to 100 variables (columns) and any number of 16-digit (64 bit), floating-point numbers (limited only by disk space). CoStat data files hold descriptions of experimental designs (in terms of variables, replicates, and factors) as well as the actual numeric data. After the data file has been created, you can analyze it quickly, without repeatedly re-describing the experimental design.

Numerous Procedures - CoStat has procedures for: descriptive statistics, GLM ANOVA, regression (including multiple regression and true nonlinear regression), analysis of frequency data, nonparametric tests, etc. An extensive collection of utilities are included for importing data, editing, transforming (with algebraic equations), creating subsets, sorting, performing FFT's to get power spectra, plotting, etc.

Publish Your Results - Results from CoStat procedures are always displayed on the screen and may optionally be sent to any printer and/or to an ASCII output file on a disk. You can use your word processor to include the output files in your research papers.

370 Page Manual - Includes a Tutorial, a Reference Guide and a Procedure Description section. The procedure descriptions contain detailed examples and references for the statistical procedures and computational methods used.

CoStat Statistical Procedures

ANOVA - GLM supports Type I, II, and III sums of squares, missing values, unbalanced designs, user-specified designs, covariance, and contrasts. Pre-defined models include: 1, 2, and 3 way completely randomized and randomized complete blocks; 2 and 3 level nested; split plot, split-split plot, split block, lattice, and Latin square. ANOVA also does Bartlett's test for homogeneity of variances. See more ANOVA information below.

Correlation - correlation coefficient; slope and Y intercept of linear regression; standard errors.

Descriptive Statistics - mean, variance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, skewness, kurtosis, maximum, minimum.

Editor - use the spreadsheet to enter/edit data; print data; sort data; transform data with algebraic functions; select a subset of the data; find outliers; do an FFT; etc.
