    1. Use Start : Settings (on older computers) : Control Panel : Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Uninstall CoHort, CoPlot, and/or CoStat if they are listed.
    3. [Note: You don't need to uninstall Java. Just leave it.]
  2. Download and install the latest version of CoPlot, which includes CoStat and Java(?).
    1. Click on coplot6311Win.exe (18,302,538 bytes) and choose to Run it.
      (Estimated download time for a 56K modem: 60 minutes.)
      (Trouble downloading? Try this mirror site: coplot6311Win.exe.)
  3. Enter your registration information. The new version asks you to re-enter your registration information the first time you run the program after you install a new version. If you have misplaced your registration information, please send an email to info@cohort.com requesting it.

Common Download Problems

More Installation Notes

  1. File Associations - The installer associates .draw files with CoPlot and .dt files with CoStat. Thus, you can click on a .draw or .dt file listed in Windows Explorer (also called "My Computer") to launch CoPlot or CoStat and view that file.
  2. Java - The installer includes a copy of the Java Runtime Environment and installs it in the c:\Program Files\CoHort\cohort6\jre directory, where it will be used by CoHort programs and not by other programs. Thus, it doesn't matter if there is a version of Java already installed on your computer before you run this installer. Also, the CoHort programs won't be affected if you install another version of Java via a standard Java installer from Sun, because the CoHort programs will continue to use their local copy of Java.
  3. Run From Command Line - Although few people will need to do this, the CoHort programs can be run from the command line. The .bat files to do this are included in this installation.
  4. Installing On A Network File Server - We no longer recommend that you use a network file server to store the CoHort programs. It leads to excessive network traffic and makes the program's start up time much longer.

Common Problems Running CoPlot

When you exit CoPlot or CoStat, you get a warning like "Warning: Default charset MS932 not supported; using ISO-8859-1 instead."
This problem can occur on some computers where the default language is not English. The solution is:
  1. Right-click (Apple users: use shift-click) on charsets.jar
  2. Choose Save Target As (or "Save link as" on some browsers).
  3. In the file dialog that pops up:
    • Set Save As Type to be All Files.
    • Make sure the file gets saved with the name charsets.jar. If your browser changed the file name (for example, to charsets.zip), change the name back to charsets.jar.
    • Choose to save the file in your cohort6 directory in the sub-directory called "jre/lib/"
      (on Windows, this is often c:\Program Files\cohort6\jre\lib;
      on Mac OS X, this is often (Macintosh HD)/Applications/CoHort/cohort6/jre/lib;
      on Linux and UNIX, this is often /usr/local/bin/cohort6/jre/lib).
  4. If the file gets upzipped, something went wrong. Try to follow the steps above again, but with slight changes so that the file gets saved as one file.
The next time you run CoPlot or CoStat, the file will be detected by Java and the problem should go away.
